In the poem “Monologue for Onion” by Suji Kwock Kim and the short Film Wait for me” by Konstantin Simonov. The authors both commentary on human desire and one's determination in acquiring a goal. According to the poem, "The tears clouding your eyes as the table fills with husks, cut flesh, all the debris of pursuit. Poor deluded human: you seek my heart"(line 4-6). Thus, regardless of the onion’s warnings to stop pursuing the truth so diligently, the person continues relentlessly peeling and cutting the onion. The tears that try to fight off the sting in the person's eyes do not slow the person down at all.In the film, there is also a sense of determination seen as these guys try to beat the odds and return back to their families. These guys are face with many tragedy of war, but, that doesn't stop them from wanted to see their love ones again. Therefore, both the poem and the film demonstrates how resilient is use to overcome a challenge or pursuit a goal.

As the poem progresses, the tone begins to become more serious and harsh as the person continues to chop the onion that is making him/or her cry, and the onion deems the person as an idiot for doing that. According to the poem, it states "Looking at you, chopping and weeping. Idiot. Is this the way you go through life" (line 10-11). At the end, the onion generalizes on how the only thing that awaits the person in the end is his/her destruction as the author states “blood, and love, a heart that will one day beat you to death” (line 29-30).Thus, proving that our own human desires would be the cause of our suffering. However, in the film, the tone gives off much more of a sense of hopefulness as these guys try to overcome the violence of war. They are both are truly at war with each other, and they have no common ground on which they can end the violence. Other than, they are both fighting to stay alive in order to see their families again. They both have different believes as they are people on opposite sides. But, that doesn’t matter as they are willing to put their lives on the line to fight for a cause.Throughout the film, we are also introduces with a lot of startling and violent images that we don't get to see in the poem that makes it really realistic for us to know and understand the devastating effects of war.
