Abstract
School bullying has always been a growing issue in our
society. Affecting teens at a very young age. It can take many forms such as
physically, verbally or psychologically, and leave behind very long-lasting
effects including, depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide on both the
victims and the bully itself. Thus, it is very important for us to explore
these effects, and outlining better ways to help this issue.
School Bullying: It’s Repercussions on Youths
Throughout history, bullying has always been a major issue in society. Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior use to harm another person. Ranging from physical, verbal, or social; it can leave behind significant effects that can be traumatic to the victims of bully or those who bully. Thus, it is very important for us to exploring these effects of bullying on the victims, and outlining the influences it’s has on our community.
To begin, there are many forms of bullying that can take place in school. According to a study “ 1 in 5 high school students and 1 in 4 elementary school students have been bullied in the last school year” ( Chudnovsky, 2017).For instance, physical bullying which is the oldest kind of bullying where the perpetrator use the actually force to bring harm to another individual. “It involves kicking, hitting, pushing, shoving, or any other physical attacks” (Dombeck, 2014). For that reason, this form of bullying is use to gain power and superiority over their victim or victims.
Another type of bullying is verbal bullying; where the use of words is carry out as an act of bullying in order to hurt that other person. Typically, the perpetrators would use teasing, taunting, and insults to cause harm to another individual. The verbal bullies may target a person based on certain characteristics such as skin color, appearances or even ethnicity. Resultantly, this can kind of bullying can cause the victim to stop coming to school and other problems in the near future.
Cyber bullying on the other hand, involves the use of technology as a way to send “hurtful text emails or posts, photos or videos, nasty gossip or rumors to harass, threaten, and embarrass another person” ( Ehiorobo, 2012). And so forth, this kind of bully can leave behind a very huge impact on the victims who are bullying and cause them to feel vulnerable and unpopular.

The Effects of Bullying
In additionally, bullying can leave behind numerous effects on the victims, and those who bully. Including, depression, anxiety, feeling of loneliness, and thoughts of suicide. These effects can cause serious setbacks in one's life or health related issues in the future. As shown in article that entitles “The Long-Term Effects of Bullying,” the author summarizes the common effects that bullying has on teens. It states “Being bullied teaches you that you are undesirable, that you are not safe in the world, and that you are relatively powerless to defend yourself.” As a result, those who are constantly bullied are more likely to take up drugs, alcohol, and participate in other kinds of risky behavior later in life and follow them into adulthood.
Also, perpetrators of bullying are more likely to take up risky behaviors such as smoking, drugs, and drinking due to their violent nature. As a result, this might cause problems for them when they are looking for a steady and secure job. People wouldn’t want to hire them because of his/her cruel behavior over others.
To Conclude, Bullying is a major issue whether it is or not the school environment. It can have significant impact on the entire society. Therefore, it is very critical that teachers and staff work towards educating students of the different forms of bullying. As well as the consequences that bullying can have on a teen or child to better stop the issue.
